Camille a 18 ans.

Family and professionals gathering 2013
- by Frédérique
12/05/2013 · 09:20
The french family/professional gathering is now over ! A wonderful opportunity of exchanges and meetings only a day like this can allow. The coming of Catalina Betancur was a real chance for everyone. The review she made about the syndrome and studies about it was really enriching. I thank her again for accepting my invitation. And I also thank every family who came, most of the time from far, and allowing this gathering to be a real success. Every intervention has been filmed and I will provide the video to all the french speaking families as soon as possible. We are now more than 50 french and belgium families (also one lithunian and one maroccan) members of the Foundation. An it keeps on growing ! I also want to remind you that a 20 minutes TV show based on Camille's life, filmed in 2011, is still regularly broadcasted, excellent opportunity to highlight the Phelan-McDermid syndrome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NbbKeX6OTk (part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goTBir6etZw (part 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NbbKeX6OTk (partie 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goTBir6etZw (partie 2)

After so many years training and an iron will, Camille is now able to ride a bike without any technical assistance. Nicolas Sarkozy at Futuroscope

My son is part of the class that Nicolas Sarkozy, France president, visited this morning when he visited the site of the Futuroscope (Maxime left on photo). He had to give him a letter for his sister Camille, not educated (except at home...) for the second consecutive year.
We just wanted to know when she would be entitled also to "the school system more efficient and the best education."
Too bad, this was not possible .... Too crowded, too fast ... .../...

Camille's summer
- by Frédérique
23/08/2011 · 09:05

An association of Seine et Marne, which was dissolved last January, decided to donate 800 euros (about 1000 dollars) to the foundation Phelan-McDermid, known thanks to this site. This money has obviously been transferred to the foundation's headquarters in the United States, hoping that some, or all, may be used next year during a next families gathering in France.

We do it again next may and it will be the same difficulties certainly.

Today we went to the CHU to make blood tests necesaries to participate to Italian's studie about 22q13 deletion ( see medical search ). We first go to pediatric service in order to the nurses put EMLA's cream at Camille where she'll be injected. Camille yell out, struggle and is very afraid, despite our preliminaries explanations. Then we went to hospital laboratory to make our blood tests. After explaning the aim of the quite inusual maneuver ( english protocol, flasks brang and brang back by ourselves ... ) I entered into the sample room with the nurse who ... reffused to let Camille come with me "because if you're scared, she'll feel it ... ". I keep trying argumenting first that I wasn't scared at all about blood samples, second that Camille NEEDED to observe, to then copy what she saw around her, and finally that I knew my daughter and her needs. The nurse, aparently convinced, called Camille back, tears in one's eyes, waiting outside with her father. she's se't next to me, looked gestures taking it all in and I insist saying that it wasn't painful at all. Back to the pediatrc service : after waiting 30 minutes, Camille is called. She stand up, turn over and say me to come with her. then she change her mind quickly, and say to me to wait. She enter into the room with the nurses, one of them suggest to her to sit on her knees ( like every time ) not at all! She ask to be sit alone on the big armchair, and don't say anything when nurses take off her band aid. Then, after some explanations, the injection and the sampling done ( on her hand ), all, without any tear, cry, or agitation. Incradible! Nurses don't believe it, and confess me that they were afraid becose off Camille's reaction during they put the cream, and understand when I say that Camille cam with me to see how does it happened. .../...

Children independence = parents blues ?
- by Frédérique
05/02/2009 · 17:08
Thursday morning:
It is eight o'clock in the morning. Waiting in the veranda the taxi that picks Camille. She is very excited, as usual, with the idea of going to school.
In view of the headlights of the car, I told her it's time to leave. She then turned to me, doing sign for the kiss, then kiss itself and orders me with a gesture to stay where I am. Then she signs "alone" ...
Okay, I understand ...
Without looking back, she burst out, making her bag off the spectacular descent of the terrace and go away, happy, to a new day.
Okay, I already warned the driver of Camille's bursts of independence, I felt a bit ahead ... so that he was not too surprised to see the days on your own.
Last week-end in the living room:
It is 22 h 30 pm and Camille looks at her books installed on the sofa. I told her that it might be time to go to bed and elsewhere, to argue history, I think to do so.
Camille looks at me with a sidelong look, above his glasses and signs "Camille + stay + read + alone" and "Mom + bedroom + at the top."
Okay, well ...
So I go in my room with a small pinch to the heart. Won't my little "boubou" need her mother ant more to go to bed? Moreover, would she go to bed after her mother?
Waiting ...
After ten minutes, Camille calls. She joined her room, was put in pajamas, waiting for someone to bring her little bottom water to its ritual asleep.
Whew, I was hot! Parents are still not completely useless ... .../...

Christmas and snow holidays
- by Frédérique

This year, Camille didn't have the same reaction in front of christmas gifts than other years. Before, she opened gift after gift and looked what it was only at the end. This year she opened his first gift and saw a DVD. Fine ! It was just what she asked ! So she went away, satisfied. I'm not sure she thougt it was possible she could have other gifts (and she had...). After, during one week, we went to mountain for holidays. See : the small blue spot. It's Camille... With snow rackets, it's all right. After a short briefing... Camille starts alone on the luge... but sometimes, she can't control everything ! But what she prefers it's snowballs fights. Big fun ! Anything that happens, the fine smile of Camille is there... So rather happy holidays, sporty and musical.. May be a little bit tiring ? .../...

New technical help - school work
- by Frédérique
13/11/2008 · 09:49 Recently, we did home made supports in order to help Camille to recognize and to work with syllabs, words... To see these supports go to "technical helps" or "at home" or "therapies" on the left.
Everyone started again sign langage lessons few weeks ago. Camille at the institution of course, Philippe and I in a formation center and even Chloé the older sister, at the high school. Hoping we will be at the top to "speak" with Camille !

Back from holidays... Too short for the parents but apparently enough for Camille, glad to find again her habits at home.
Anyway, she liked to change place almost every day without any problem. Idem for food and everyday schedule. "it was beginning very bad those holidays... Doing the dishes...
... holidays school work...
Huge waves... ... So, I said STOP ! and thought that made me laugh. and helped parents to understand I just wanted to do nothing...
playing on the beach...
meeting other children...
Going to shows... (here " fantasia" of Moulay Bousselham).
Analysing rubish collect with my brother...
and meet old acquaintance like Zaineb and her family in Casablanca. Finally, I had to fight but I spent quite good holidays". .../...

!!!!!!!!! Ten years old !!!!!!!!! First birthday with two numbers, important symbolic step... the ten years of a child is always a great moment for his parents. May be a bit more for parents of a different child. A bit more evaluations from the past years, questions about the next ones, inevitable comparisons... Far from these observations, Camille celebrated her birthday with friends. Horse riding, swimming-pool, games... the day was really busy for her greatest pleasure. With a new friend on the guests list : Adrien, HER best school friend.
